Mani Ratnam was in Kolkata to inaugurate the 15th Kolkata film festival by lighting a lamp. Speaking on the occasion director Mani said “It is an honour to be in this city which has given the world such stalwarts as Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak and my mentor Mrinal Sen”.
The festival got under way with The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, a 2008 British film about a child’s life in Nazi Germany. Altogether 228 films from 56 countries would be shown during the festival which will continue till November 17.
The Kollywood offerning to the film festival is Poo, a desperate story of unrequited love starring Srikanth in one of his best roles and the lovely Parvathi Menon, and finally Subraimaniyapuram – featuring Jai and Swathi, a simply stunning tale of revenge.
